Regarded as the most common skin type, combination skin can be tricky to deal with as most products are designed to deal specifically with dry or oily skin – you hardly see bottles labelled “for combination skin”. So how do you know which products you can and should be using? The trick is fairly simple.

Some of us have to go through the trouble of always having an oil-blotting sheet in our purse because we have oily skin. Do not fret, here are some tips that might help get rid of that oily skin.

1. Cleansers

Avoid buying cleansers that contain sulphates which will cause immediate tightness after cleansing as this will cause your skin to produce more oil than necessary. Instead opt for an “Oil-Control Cleanser” that is formulated with activated charcoal that will help to purify the skin without drying it out. Also, do not wash your face with hot water but light steaming once a week accompanied by your evening regimen should be good.

2. Exfoliation

Exfoliate your skin mildly. Scrubbing your face too often or too long might cause more oil production. Do it once or twice a week and lightly scrub the face. Buying a facial scrub that contains Salicylic Acid will help to gently exfoliate and also reduce acne.

3. Toner

Use a toner that is acetone and alcohol free. If the toner contains alcohol, it will send messages to the oil glands to produce more oil. It would be best to avoid them.

4. Moisturiser

Instead of using a moisturiser, use a hydrating serum. If your skin is very oily, use the serum only at night. But if your skin is somewhat oily, you can use the serum once in the morning and once at night. A hydrating serum does not only help to hydrate the skin, it also helps to keep skin glowing and smooth. Only use a hydrating moisturiser when skin feels dry after using the serum twice per day.

5. Sunscreen

Never forget to protect your skin from the sun. End off your skin care routine with a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more and your skin will thank you for it! Do not use a moisturiser containing sunscreen. Your sunscreen should just be purely a sunscreen.

What are Milia Seeds?

Pretty as they sound, these are not flower seeds. Also known as oilseeds, milia seeds are keratin-filled bumps that usually develop around the eye and nose area. They’re the bane of every quest to silky smooth skin because they cause a rough and uneven skin texture. Commonly found in people of all ages, they form when the skin does not slough off normally and get trapped in pores. Not so pretty now, are they?

Milia Seeds 101: What are they?

What Causes Them?

Milia seeds are often caused by overly rich creams or oil-based skin care products. For some people, they are hereditary or caused by hormonal changes. Certain medications and pollutants can also be contributing factors. However, before you start panicking about those little white bumps on your face, do note that these are fairly harmless.

How To Prevent Them?

Milia Seeds 101: Avoid creams that are too rich for the eye area

Avoid using creams that are too rich for your eye area as it might cause pore congestion. Rich concealers are often silent causes as people often use them to cover up dark eye circles. Consider using an oil-free lotion or cream, or possibly change products altogether, as an allergy may also be a cause. Sunburns may also cause damage leading to the cysts, so be sure to wear sunblock if burning is a problem. Most importantly, keep your hands off your face to prevent excess bacteria from getting on it!

How To Get Rid Of Milia Seeds?

Common ways include the use of a topical retinoid cream such as tretinoin, tazarotene or adapalene; removal with a sterile lancet or scalpel followed by the use of a comedone extractor, a tool used to remove whiteheads and blackheads; a series of fruit acid peels or microdermabrasion procedures; and carbon dioxide laser treatment. You should consult a dermatologist or aesthetic specialist for the appropriate course of treatment. Most importantly, do not try to remove them by squeezing them yourself, as it will very likely lead to scars.
